Next Gen All Star: Jesse Bolen
Age: 22
Company: My Professional Plumber
Title: Service Technician

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
JB: I have been in the plumbing industry since I was about 16.
What drew you into the industry?
JB: I didn't necessarily have family involved in the plumbing industry in particular. I've always enjoyed building stuff with my hands and my grandpa was big into woodworking. As a teen, I was doing remodels and stuff. I did my first bathroom remodel with some older guys and learned that I absolutely loved doing that. From there, I found out I was decent and pretty good at plumbing, and it was something I enjoyed.
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
JB: I would say the most rewarding part about it is helping out your customers. It’s a big deal to them, but it’s something you’ve seen 100 times. I can say, “Hey, I got it. Don’t worry. You’ll be OK.”
What motivates you every day?
JB: My son — he’s two months old. My end goal is to own my own business. I want to bring him up in it and I want to build him a future.
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
JB: That it's a very good trade to be in, and if you can find the right company to work for and get an apprenticeship, then you don't have to worry about getting student loans and you can have a very, very good career for yourself without having to spend anywhere from four to eight years in college.
What has been the proudest moment in your career so far?
JB: Every time when I finish a job because I put a piece of myself into every job.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
JB: I like to play chess.
Why he was chosen as a Next Gen All Star Top 20 Under 40 winner:
“Jesse came to us with some experience, but he has blown us away since he completed his apprenticeship training with us. We sent seven technicians to Nexstar's Service Systems class and Jesse is the only one to complete all requirements for certification. He goes above and beyond for his customers on a daily basis. We've even caught him carrying in groceries and mowing a customer's lawn for them, not to mention spraying a hornet's nest so his elderly customer didn't get stung while working in her flowers. Jesse will sit and listen to his customers no matter what they want to talk about, he's not just their plumber, he becomes their friend! ” — April Headings
