How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

DW: I started with Uponor in 2007 as a plumbing designer, which was really my first true introduction into the plumbing industry. Prior to Uponor, I was a self-employed general contractor, but subbed most of my plumbing work out. So long story short, I’ve been in the construction industry for over 22 years, and the plumbing/HVAC industry specifically for 16.

What drew you into the industry?

DW: At the time, I had just completed my Associate's program in drafting/design and was looking for something more consistent/steady than being a general contractor. Joining Uponor as a designer provided me with a ton of learning and experience as they had offerings in both the radiant heating and cooling markets, as well as plumbing and fire sprinkler. Additionally, Uponor was just dipping its toes into the commercial plumbing market, so I was able to help grow and develop our services and offerings for a much more diverse building set.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

DW: Working in the construction industry is rewarding because the outputs are tangible, meaning you can physically see/feel the products, systems and structures you’ve designed and installed — it provides a sense of accomplishment.

What motivates you every day?

DW: Helping our customers design, select and install safer, more efficient systems and always looking for ways to improve.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

DW: The systems that we all design/sell/install help make our lives as humans easier/better/safer. In general, I think we take a lot of things for granted, like indoor plumbing or central air conditioning. Having safe, hygienic piping materials for indoor plumbing, or hydronic radiant heating and cooling systems that provide a healthier and more comfortable living environment, we can take a lot of pride in knowing that we’re providing safe and efficient systems.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

DW: In 2022, I was awarded the Uponor President’s Excellence Award along with nine of my colleagues, and it was great knowing that my work and contributions are appreciated.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

DW: I was voted class daredevil in high school. I grew up on wheels, raced motocross for a few years and was the kid jumping bonfires with my BMX bike. Unfortunately, that also comes with a high risk of injury, and I have two broken femurs to show for it — not fun!

Why he was chosen as a Next Gen All Star Top 20 Under 40 winner:

“Daniel has been elevating the plumbing industry and supporting the trade through design and installation education and awareness for more than 16 years. Beginning in 2007, as part of the Uponor Design Services group, he helped establish and scale the company’s commercial plumbing design offering from manual sizing and material takeoffs to custom blocks and eventually custom software. He also helped develop numerous calculators to aid in more efficient system design, including pressure loss, heat loss and time-to-hot water delivery.

“In 2011, he obtained the Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) designation from the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), which enabled him to advance Uponor plumbing designs for greater system efficiencies, performance, and longevity. In 2012, he led the creation of multiple technical resources for design engineers and installing contractors, including the Uponor Plumbing Design and Assistance Manual (PDAM), the Uponor PEX Piping Systems Installation Guide, and the accompanying Uponor PEX Piping Systems Training Course, which teaches proper Uponor PEX piping installation methods to installers throughout North America.

“In 2021, he began leading the development and execution of the company’s first large-scale PEX prefabrication project: Society Orlando, a 26-story multifamily new construction building. The project included more than 950 prefabricated PEX riser spools, which helped the customer save well over 50% in field labor hours. The project also won the PPI Project of the Year Award in the Building and Construction Division.

“In closing, Daniel Worm is an exemplary professional that has been consistently improving and promoting the plumbing trades for the past 16 years through education, awareness, and best practices. He is extremely deserving of the Plumbing Group Next Gen All-Stars recognition.” — Kim Bliss, technical and marketing content manager, Uponor
